Capital Projects Administrator

LOCATION:            New Aiyansh, British Columbia

 

JOB SUMMARY: Within the guidelines of the Capital Finance Commission Act (the “CFC Act”) and at the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (the “CFO”), the Capital Project Administrator provides administrative assistance to the CFO in carrying out the responsibilities of the CFC Act.  This entails participating in Capital Finance Commission (the “CFC”) meetings, liaising and coordinating with the six asset owners and working with external consultants and contractors.  The Capital Projects Administrator also provides assistance all non-CFC capital projects which includes liaising with external funding agencies like Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Liaise, coordinate and provide support for all capital projects and capital assets with the CFC asset owners;
  2. Maintain the records of the CFC including the minutes of the CFC meetings, authorized disbursements, project cash flows and status and asset inventories, reports, schedules and budgets;
  3. Oversee the maintenance of all NLG assets;
  4. Administration of the Nation’s umbrella insurance policy;
  5. Provide support to the village government’s and NLG’s housing programs;
  6. Involvement in the planning and preparation of the Nation’s emergency preparedness and operations.

EDUCATION or OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

  1. Minimum high school diploma;
  2. Post secondary training in Business, Finance or Accounting an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of 3 years administering or managing capital projects is required;
  2. Financial management and budgeting for capital projects experience is required;
  3. Familiarity with the CFC, Nisga’a capital assets is an asset.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  2. Ability to prioritize, organize and manage a workload including concurrent multi-initiatives with changing deadlines;
  3. Highly organized and structured with a clear attention to detail;
  4. Ability to understand and speak or familiarity with Nisga’a language and culture an asset.

Administrative Assistant

LOCATION:         New Aiyansh, British Columbia

JOB SUMMARY: Performs administrative and clerical support to the Directorate of Communications and Intergovernmental Relations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The performance of various administrative tasks including:
  •  All communication activities including telephone, fax, e-mail;
  • Screens Director’s telephone calls by making preliminary inquiries to the nature of the call, gathers background information or research as requested and conduct follow-up calls as directed;
  • Summarizes contents verbally to the Director;
  • Drafts preliminary correspondence, as directed;
  • Print newsletters in a booklet format for distribution;
  • Scheduling and confirmation of all appointments including meetings and reminds the Director of obligations in advance;
  • Receiving and distributing mail while prioritizing urgent mail and flags for follow up;
  • Coordination of, and preparation for meetings (agendas, photocopying, facilities, attendees, etc.);
  • Maintenance of the physical and electronic filing system including control of confidential materials;
  • Creation of correspondence including reports, minutes, photocopies, etc., as required;
  • Travel planning/arrangements and ensures that travel advances are processed on time, as required;
  • Other general office functions;

   2.  Assisting with the administration of Purchase Orders, Invoices;

   3.  Coordinate directorate reporting material required for NLG Executiv by           working with the Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer to accomplish this;

   4.  Provides administrative and other support for special events;

   5.  Other duties may be assigned;

 

EDUCATION or OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

  1. Minimum high school diploma;
  2. Post secondary training in Business Administration an asset.

  1. Minimum of 2 years in an administrative assistant position is required;

Visitor Services Associate - Nisgaa Museum

LOCATION:           Greenville, British Columbia

 

JOB SUMMARY: Provide guided tours of the Nisga’a Museum and deliver specific programming activities to different museum audiences.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Respond to telephone and email inquiries about the Nisga’a Museum programs;
  2. Keep statistical records on museum visitation.
  3. Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  1. Have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  2. A demonstrated interest in museum studies, Aboriginal culture, Aboriginal history, anthropology, history, or similar would be beneficial;
  3. Knowledge of Nisga’a people, culture, territory, and history is highly desired.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be between that ages of 15 – 29 years;
  2. Enrolled in a full time school and planning to return to school full time in the fall;
  3.  Must be able to work in Canada;
  4. Registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory;

JOB SUMMARY: The Nisga'a Enforcement Officer will be responsible for implementing the enforcement of Nisga'a laws relating to fish and wildlife and forestry matters on Nisga'a Lands, including the Nisga'a Fish and Wildlife Act, the Nisga'a Forest Act and the Nisga'a Offence Act, and any and all regulations made under those Acts. 

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

  1. High School Diploma;
  2. A university degree or college diploma in natural resources, law enforcement or renewable resources management preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of 2 years work experience related to natural resources, law enforcement, conducting inspections to monitor compliance with regulations and standards, investigations of non-compliance: is strongly recommended.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Aid in developing action plans to resolve specific issues of non-compliance with Nisga’a Law; implementation of administrative processes necessary for the processing of violations of Nisga'a Law;  
  2. Reporting on any violations of Nisga'a Law; 
  3. Preparing briefing reports and summaries of work conducted in the field or otherwise;
  4. Preparing detailed reports with recommendations to Nisga’a Lisims Government (‘NLG’) management and legal counsel outlining proposed resolutions to issues of non-compliance with Nisga'a Law;
  5. Advising and assisting legal counsel in carrying out prosecution actions in accordance with Nisga'a Law;
  6. Assisting in the education of the Nisga'a Nation, Nisga'a citizens and the general public on compliance with Nisga'a Law;
  7. Under the supervision of NLG management, participating in discussions with local government and stakeholder groups to promote local involvement in the enforcement of Nisga'a Law on Nisga'a lands;
  8. Provide support for implementation of any agreements between NLG and the federal government and l or provincial government in respect of the enforcement of Nisga'a Law on Nisga'a lands;
  9. Other Duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  2. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with law enforcement agencies, government agencies and stakeholders;
  3. Ability to prioritize, organize and manage a demanding workload including concurrent multi-initiatives with changing deadlines, emerging issues and conflicting demands.

Museum - Coordinator

SUPERVISOR:            Museum Manager – Nisga’a Museum

HOURS:                   35 hrs per week

TERM:                      April to October, 2012 with possibility of extension

LOCATION:               Greenville, British Columbia

 

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates the Nisga’a Museum’s education and public programs and assists with administrative duties. Develops innovative school and public programs that interpret and preserve the Nisga’a history and culture relevant to the Nisga’a Museum. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Organizing schedules, developing project budgets and  work plans;
  2. Creating school and public programs for a variety of target audiences to be used both in the museum and in local schools (lesson plans, program summaries and content for the Museum's website and newsletters);
  3. Developing and presenting guided tours to scheduled groups;
  4. Completion of daily records and visitation reports;
  5. Purchasing supplies for Museum administration and program activities;
  6. Recruiting, training and scheduling summer student employees;
  7. Maintaining fiscal responsibility for programs and related marketing;
  8. Produce operational reports to communicate performance and activities related to public programs;
  9. Coordinating updates to museum web site;

10.  Travel may be required;

11.  Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of professional museological ethics, standards, and practices;
  2. Strong time management and organizational skills;
  3. Superior attention to detail;
  4. Keyboarding skills and ability to use Word, Excel, Outlook, the Internet, and other computer programs as required;
  5. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and/or Adobe InDesign an asset;
  6. Knowledge of Nisga’a history and culture in addition to school curriculum guidelines would be highly desirable;
  7. Ability to work with a variety of audiences and to speak comfortably in public;
  8. Ability to meet deadlines, maintains program and administrative priorities, and adapt to shifting priorities and timelines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1.  Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
  2.  High School Diploma or GED equivalent required;
  3. University Degree in Museum Studies, History or a related discipline is highly desirable;
  4. Minimum 2 years experience working in a museum or cultural setting.
  5. Ability to understand and speak or familiarity with Nisga’a language and culture an asset.
